Strengths of the Ph.D Programme

The International Ph.D Programme in Criminology provides a wide range of opportunities for candidates. Some of the Programme’s strengths are:

  • The members of the Academic Board who lecture and tutor in the Ph.D. Programme are key international professors and researchers in criminology and related disciplines.
     
  • In addition to the scholarships awarded by universities, the Ph.D. Programme in Criminology has always received fundings from: private companies (such as ADT, Crime&tech, Eni Corporate University, Gucci, Philip Morris International, Pirelli, TIM and Telecom Italia); associated universities (such as the University of Teramo); public institutions (such as the High Commission for the Struggle against Counterfeiting, Regione Lombardia, and the autonomous Province of Trento).
     
  • Candidates awarded the International Ph.D. in Criminology can access to career opportunities in the academic world, public and private sector, NGOs and international organisations. Some of the International Ph.D. in Criminology graduates are currently working at: University of Cardiff, University of Surrey, UNIL-Université de Lausanne, Università degli Studi Milano-Bicocca, Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore di Milano, Italian Government, Università degli Studi di Trento, United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, European Commission, Eurojust, Louis Vuitton, PWC, SNAM, Small Arms Survey, UNICRI, Save the Children, Chanel, Amazon.
     
  • Candidates awarded Ph.D. scholarships will collaborate in the management and organisation of the Transcrime's projects and research activities, along with a staff of more than 25 members. Over the last decades, Transcrime has carried out more than 300 research projects, mostly as coordinator, funded by local, national and international authorities and institutions, such as the European Commission through the Horizon 2020, Horizon Europe and DG Home Affairs programmes, Italian Home Office, Regione Trentino, Regione Lombardia, as well as private organisations.
     
  • As part of our Programme, Ph.D. candidates will have the opportunity to broaden their academic experience by spending a semester of studies and research at a foreign university or research institution. Some of the organisations that hosted our students in recent years are: Carnegie Mellon University, European University Saint Petersburg, the United Nations, World Bank, Interpol, Europol, George Mason University, Organization of American States, New York University, University of California, University of Colorado Boulder, University of Manchester, University of Maryland, University of South Florida, Leiden University, and Vrije Universiteit.
     
  • Upon successful conclusion of the period abroad in one of the partner universities, Ph.D. candidates may be recognized with the title of Doctor Europaeus.
     
  • All the activities of the Ph.D. are in English. This includes lectures, seminars, the Ph.D. thesis and the final defence.
