Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore

Overview: learning objectives and syllabus

The School aims to train professionals able to work in different scientific and working sectors, with well-developed analytical and interpretative skills to face events and who can combine technical, economic and legal aspects.

The objective is to train highly skilled people who will be able to work in research, international bodies, company management, and national and local institutions.

The location of the European Agency for Food Safety in Parma will certainly offer career opportunities to people with the above mentioned skills.

The School will operate through traditional teaching, partly oriented towards a common core for the different areas, and partly towards a specific training.

The common core teaching will cover the principles of research methodology, basic quantitative methods (e.g. statistic, ect), ethical aspects and further study of scientific English. These aspects will be covered during the first year.

The second year will be devoted partly to a work experience abroad, partly to the start up of the research proposal and, where necessary, to specific face to face lessons.

The third year should be dedicated to research and thesis preparation.

The different phases of research activity will be carried out under the guidance of a member of the teaching staff.

These activities will require the expertise of the faculties involved, as well as the participation of experts from other Italian and international institutions, in order to activate a system of multidisciplinary and multi-sectoral training complying with specific requirements.

The School will thus permit the achievement of two specific goals:

  1. training for the enhancement of the skills of young people motivated to learn top-level research methodologies;
  2. management and development of innovative projects with possible spin-offs in the area, and contribution to a virtuous cycle of promotion of scientific research.
