• Photoemission: a many body viewpoint

  Brescia Photoemission: a many body viewpoint. These lectures aim at illustrating how a photoemission experiment can reveal crucial information about the interactions in a many body system. By detecting photoelectrons, a photoemission experiment measures the excitation spectrum of a many body system upon single particle removal and, within certain approximations, provides a direct measurement of the single particle Green function. The lectures will provide a description of these fundamental ideas making use of fundamental notions and techniques of Many Body Theory such as quasiparticles, Green functions, and Feynman diagrams.   Brescia Characterization of retinal ganglion cells firing patterns evoked by optical and electrical stimulation. The development of effective prosthesis requires the characterization of retinal ganglion cells (RGC) response to the external stimulus. In this study, we investigate a method of RGC excitation through light pulses, for generating and, further, characterizing precise temporal patterns of spikes reproducing those normally evoked in healthy vision.   Applications will be also considered from candidates who, by the date of the application deadline, have not yet obtained their degree or other foreign academic qualification. • Financial support

  Each position is supported by a scholarships that varies depending on the financing institution. In the case of the scholarship provided by UCSC, the grant is increased by 50% per month (for a maximum of eighteen months) for time spent by the student at academic institutions or international organizations abroad. Incoming foreign students will be helped by the secretariat to find a temporary or permanent accommodation in the work location. The School will also provide the necessary information about how to get the VISA and permit of stay.
